The Kingdom of Bhutan is a small landlocked country located in the Eastern Himalayas. Primarily Buddhist, it is situated between Tibet to the north and India to the south. Bhutan is rugged and is the home of many snowcapped peaks ranging over 4,000m in height. In stark contrast, jungle fills its southern border. Driving across Bhutan is an adventure in itself. Imagine winding up and down the mountainous landscape in the north, while access to the interior is limited due to dense forests and subtropical plains in the south.
Bhutan is very diverse and has various geoclimatic zones, which lends itself to diversity in flora and fauna. Bhutan is home to 5,603 recorded species and over 300 medicinal plants. It is home to the snow leopard, red panda, takin, golden langur, Asiatic elephant and the Himalayan musk deer. Bhutan has even recorded a Bengal tiger living at 4,000+ metres above sea level. Bhutan is considered an ornithologist’s paradise with 678 recorded species including the white-bellied heron and black-necked crane.
TOURS – VOLUNTEERING & HOLIDAY
Compassionate Beings offers an extensive range of volunteering tours and tour holidays in Bhutan. We have developed incredible opportunities that contribute to the health and wellbeing of the young monks of Bhutan. As we grow our projects we will eventually expand to elementary schools throughout Bhutan.
Our tours offer exceptional opportunities to immerse yourself within the generous warmth of the Bhutanese people, while helping to improve sanitation, hygiene and nutrition at the Monastic School of Dechenphodrang. Volunteer tours will be interspersed with excursions (treks at varying levels) and an opportunity to experience the beauty of the wild, untouched areas of Bhutan.
